Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) submitted an annual budget worth Rs 7.2 crore to Punjab Wasa on Saturday for final approval.
According to the budget documents, WASA’s total revenue comes from its own sources, including water and sewage treatment costs, while the Punjab government’s development plan received Rs 2,233 crore.
Total expenditure is estimated at Rs 50,02 crore.
WASA Managing Director Muhammad Salem Ashraf told dawn The Punjab government has appointed Dr. Hassan Waqar Ceema, deputy commissioner, as chairman.

After the fat man, the chairman forwarded the budget to Punjab Wasa Lahore for final approval.
Wasa, he said, is a self-sustaining organization and spends on its own resources.
“The revenue generated through bills will be used to improve the water supply system in the garrison cities,” he said.
He added that a large portion of the budget is consumed by electricity from more than 480 test tube wells and staff salaries. “We are working to reduce spending, but the electricity rate increases twice or three times a year, which makes it difficult,” he said.
To improve the world, WASA sets its recycling target for fiscal year 2024-25 at Rs 2.371 crore, but its actual yield is more than Rs 3 billion.
“In the last fiscal year of 2023-24, the recovery target was Rs 1.57 crore, and Rs 17.11 crore was collected. However, in 2024-25, over Rs 3 billion were recovered in just 11 months, which is a significant achievement.”
The MD said there are 134,681 consumers in the garrison city, of which 96,971 are paying their bills regularly. The recovery team has been used to ensure that all consumers are in the payment category.
He explained that the improved recovery was due to a new program under which a special revenue recovery team was established to recover debts from commercial and domestic chronic defaulters without discrimination.
“I have paid a special task for the recovery team to ensure 100% of the debt is paid from all the offenders and will not tolerate the drawbacks of revenue recovery,” he said.
Wasa Rawalpindi also launched an action against chronic offenders. Aamir Ashfaq Qureshi Senior Special District Judge Wasa Wasa Rawalpindi issued arrest warrants for five defaulters, including residents of New Parian (Rs 22,712), another resident of Raja Sultan Rocasity (RS425,869) (rs425,869) and three other new Parians, as well as other annual meetings, Rs 187,213 respectively.
The MD said the defaulter had been repeatedly dispatched to pay dues, but after continuing to pay for his unpaid, an arrest warrant was finally issued. He also directed the income officer to immediately disconnect water connections from all defaulters.
The defaulter finally has a chance to clear the owed. Thereafter, holiday and installment options will be withdrawn, and further actions will include attachments to the property, arrest and closure of water and Suderage services.
The MD calls on consumers to prove their responsible citizens by paying on time. He said the crackdown would continue until the last time the offender complies with the last offender, adding that no pressure was tolerated in this regard.
