Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced a major cabinet reshuffle on Friday, participating in key portfolio redistribution and the inclusion of two new members, and increasing the number of cabinet members to 23.
In addition to the changes at the ministerial level, the provincial government has appointed four other special assistants as chief ministers.
Political observers see the reorganization as a mere eye, a time when the provincial government is under increasing pressure on government failure, especially in Karachi, where sanitation, water supply and urban planning remain unresolved.
Saeed Ghani, the party’s senior PPP leader at Karachi President, took away his local government portfolio along with Nasir Hussain Shah, who previously oversees the Program and Development Department, who held an LG role in the portfolio of Energity Department.
Mr. Ghani was awarded a combination of labor and social protection and had a hero before being assigned to the LG department.
Muhammad Ismail Rahoo was assigned to the university and board of directors and he also had heroes during his last tenure as the Sindh government led by PPP.
According to a notice issued by the Chief Secretary, the Governor appointed Mr. Rahoo as the Governor at the suggestion of CM.
Later, at a simple ceremony, Governor Muhammad Kamran Tessori swore in to Mr. Rahu.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, governor, adviser, opposition leader Ali Khurshidi and police inspectors, Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon were also present.
The ceremony at the Governor’s Building was presided over by Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah.
The Chief Secretary also announced the appointment of Giyanoo Mal alias Giyan Chand Essarani as the consultant to the Chief Minister of Rehabilitation.
Makhdoom Mehboob-Uz-Zaman moved to the Food Department from the Rehabilitation Department. In turn, Jabbar Khan, who previously managed the food sector, was reassigned to the relief sector.
Other changes to Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro consider additional charges from the Planning and Development Department, Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman moved from rehabilitation to the Food Department, replacing Jabbar Khan.
In addition to the ministerial change, the provincial government has adjusted its advisors and appointed four other special assistants – Dr. Shamder Sunder K. Advani, Faraz Abid Lakhani, Muhammad Tariq Hassan and Atta Muhammad Panhwar.
Dr. Sham Sundar was awarded a portfolio for minority affairs, Muhammad Ali Rashid Information Science and Technology, while Sarfraz Rajis was charged by the Archives Department.
A spokesman for CM House said the special assistant was not a member of the cabinet.
Earlier on July 2, 2024, Lal Chand Ukrani, Sardar Faraz Rajar, Qasim Naveed Qamar, Waqar Mehdi, Rajveer Singh, Mansoor Shahani, Usman Hignoro, Abdul Jabbar Khan, Junaid Baloch, and Muhammad Salem Baloch Had Been Appointed AS Special Assistants Chief Minister.
