Lahore: On Monday, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) distributed aid packages among flood victims here, which coincided with the birthday of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The ceremony on Peco Road was attended by major parties attended by Punjab Governor Sardar Salem Haider and former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
Many workers and office staff participated in activities organized by senior party leader Faisal Mir, including Secretary General Syed Hassan Murtaza, Information Secretary Shehzad Saeed Ceema and Bushra Manzoor.
According to party officials, 30 families from the flood-affected areas of Kasur, Chiniot, Multan and Muzaffargarh received relief packages worth Rs 125,000 during the event.
These packages include essential items such as bedding, clothing, cribs, bikes, solar lights, kitchenware, health kits and a month’s ration.
Affected families also offer breakfast before the ceremony.
At the party, former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf expressed satisfaction with the initiative and stressed the importance of collective action in the face of adversity.
“This kind of aid is a message that we must face this disaster together,” he said.
He praised the resilience of the Pakistani state and praised the ongoing flood mitigation efforts of the federal and Punjab governments. Governor Haider highlighted Bilawal Bhutto’s instructions to celebrate his birthday by helping flood victims rather than holding luxurious celebrations.
He announced that he will launch another flood mitigation package worth Rs 1 billion in partnership with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce, industrial, geographic suits and sweet houses. Shehzad Ceema called on the Punjab government to prioritize services over politics. He communicated on flood relief efforts in civil society, such as Chichawawawawawatni and Kamalia, where government aid “arrives slowly.”
Faisal Mir said the event was a plan for Bilawal’s desire to dedicate his birthday to humanitarian services.
Aid from Gaza: The governor of Punjab visited Lahore Airport on Monday to monitor planes carrying cargo for the people of Gaza on behalf of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).
He described the Palestinian people as brothers and sisters, and said Israel has become a threat to global peace, urged the United Nations to pay close attention to Israel’s “terrorism” and called on all Islamic countries to support Palestine.
