PML-N leaders suggested that the “Benazir Rozgar Program” or “Hunarmand Spine” is a more effective way to provide beneficiaries with skills and employment opportunities rather than monthly allowances. He had said that the matter would be discussed in parliament and claimed that even some PPP leaders agreed to the proposal.
PPP Secretary General Humayun Khan reiterated his party’s demand for rapid relief activities through BISP, named by the former late Benazir Bhutto.
He said the federal government should provide immediate financial assistance to flood-affected families through BISP. He stressed that BISP is a “proven, transparent and effective mechanism that provides direct support to the country’s most vulnerable population”.
“At these critical times, the affected families are in desperate need of urgent support. BISP is the most reliable platform to ensure the rapid and equitable distribution of rescue funds.” PPP leaders urged the government to abandon political differences, purely on humanitarian grounds, to ensure relief efforts are carried out without delay or discrimination.
He added: “This is not the time to score politically. Now is the time to unite and act. The government must mobilize all available resources to help those in need through the transparent system of BISP.”
