RAWPINDI: After two weeks of suspension of international mail, Pakistan Post resumed shipping packages to its final destination via Qatar Post.

Pakistan Airlines will deliver the mail to Doha, and Qatar Post will then send it through its network to its final destination.

Senior official from the Pakistan Post Office told dawn From September 1, Atihad Airways has suspended the promotion of all categories of international mail as Pakistan Post failed to pay postal dues for its shipping company mailing more than Rs 20 crore.

He mentioned that only Pakistan International Airlines is currently processing international mail in the countries where its flights operate. However, he added that over the past two weeks, more than 6,000 letters and parcels have been under review because private airlines refuse to ship them.

More than 6,000 pending letters and parcels are now dispatched through Qatar Post

He explained that the matter had been reported to the federal government, which decided to navigate aid from Qatar Post to deliver mail through its system through its countries where the PIA does not operate.

To address this issue, he further pointed out that the discussion was with the hero of Qatar Post to forward the mail from Pakistan Post through Doha. The other operations directors of Pakistan Post will also meet with his Qatar colleagues (POC) to strengthen the request, at the UAE (CA) and Postal Operations Commission (POC).

He said Qatar Post has now agreed to provide its closed bus service to Pakistan Post.

Pakistan Post Director Abid Mehmood said in contact with it that the mail service between Pakistan and Qatar has been restored and that Pakistan Post will now deliver letters, parcels and other mails through Qatar Post.

He explained that Pakistan Post cannot legally pay visionary dues to private airlines dues due to financial restrictions, and the Ministry of Finance has been asked to provide a bailout package to prevent future problems.

He further mentioned that after an agreement between Pakistan Post and Qatar Post, all categories of mail, letters, parcels and EMS will be delivered to Doha via PIA flights, after which Qatar Post will forward it to its final destination through its partner airlines.

Mr Mehmood said letters and parcels have been suspended under the new tax regime on the topic of delivering mail to the United States of America, but new regulations have been issued.
