RAWPINDI: Of all investigators who conduct or supervise investigations on murder cases of blind women, only about 26% appear at the highest level Meetingraising serious concern from relevant authorities.
According to the Punjab Other Inspector General (AIG) of the Punjab Police Investigation Department, only 26% of the investigators in the head of Punjab conducted investigations or oversight investigations on women’s murders, responding to the meeting, Hero Week, discussed the status of the murders of women from 2010 to 15 September 2025.
These cases include unidentified women’s bodies recovered from canals or elsewhere, and litigation by Section 173 CRPC involving suicides of women registered in such cases or FIR.
To remind all Regional Police (RPO), Municipal Police (CPO) and Regional Police (DPOS), AIG Investigation Punjab said that the investigation or oversight investigation of cases of blind murders conducted by Punjab by investigators in Punjab on 2019 and September 15, 2025, are accompanied by progress reports of these cases.
However, only 64 of the 240 investigators attended the meeting, which attracted serious concern among the authorities.
In his memorandum, the AIG investigation directed the RPO and the CPO to ensure strict instructions for the remaining responsible investigators to take office with the required documents. He also said police departments without blind murder should submit license certificates.
Earlier, the Punjab Police Monitoring Cell had sought full records of all cases, recording all cases of blind murders of women, unidentified bodies of women found in canals or elsewhere, women who attempted suicide or suicide, and cases investigated under CRP Article 174, from 2019 to September 2025.
Sources said the investigators in charge of all Punjab police officers (including Rawalpindi) seem to look like records of all registered cases, appearing to be punchabs generally monitored by other inspectors.
Additional IG monitoring Punjab also sent a letter to the district police in Punjab including Lahore and Rawalpindi, titled “Looking for investigation”.
The letter said the competent authorities have ordered all investigators in the bodies to appear in full records and details of the blind murder or murder case, in which the deceased women are unidentified, including bodies included in canals or elsewhere.
Detailed information about the body of unknown women, women’s suicide cases or cases registered under Article 174 CRPC are also sought.
In addition, all FIR and related reports and complete regional records are presented at the other IG monitoring Punjab office in Lahore.
Police sources said the purpose of summoning records and investigators is to review progress in situations involving women and develop a strategy to investigate these untracked cases, including improving the overall investigation system.
According to legal experts, Article 174 CRPC requires police to investigate unnatural deaths such as suicide or accidental death to investigate and report obvious causes of death.
The investigation covers suicide, animal or mechanical death, accidental death or death in the event of a suspected crime.
Rawalpindi police have submitted details of the murder of a blind woman registered between 2019 and 15 September 2025.
Four cases registered in Saddar Beroni, Rawat and Jatli Police Stations are still untracked.
Similarly, during this period, two cases of unknown women were reported at the Ravat Police Station in Rawalpindi, or elsewhere during this period. These cases are still not tracked.
