Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed the Ministry of Defense on Friday to ensure that senior inter-occupational intelligence (ISI) officials – whether deputy director or relevant department commander – were in the case of missing citizen Omar Abdull, for in-camera briefings.
The direction follows the federal government transferring Rs 5 million to the Abdullah family’s account. During the hearing, other attorney generals of the Department of Defense and Defense officials filed the receipt of the online transfer to the court.
Speaking to the victim’s father, Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani said the family would receive the money by tomorrow, but added that the pay could not heal the trauma caused by the execution’s disappearance. “This money does not heal the pain of the family,” the judge observed.
He further warned that the matter could cause criminal proceedings at any stage, criticizing the Council’s silence on the issue.
“It’s the work of the parliament, but unfortunately they closed their eyes,” he said.
Justice Kayani stressed that the court only needs the truth about Abdullah’s fate. “We should be told whether the missing citizens are alive, dead or in Afghan prisons. The officers should carry records with them and inform the court of facts – we are not writing anyone’s name in the judgment.”
The judge noted that intelligence officials’ trial appeared before the committee of missing persons but expressed reluctance when the court summoned. He added: “I don’t know why they were so angry with the court and the same officer appeared before the retired judge of the committee.”
He further observed that financial resolution could not solve the long-term execution disappearance.
“There is no shortage of funds in the country, but because payments will not solve the problem.
The court should inform whether the person was killed, left the country or hid somewhere. ” Judge Kayani said.
The judge said the regret of lack of progress over the past decade and so far there is no power to provide the court with the truth.
He said: “Brief General Sahib! We cannot tear up the judgment, you must tell us where the missing persons are.” He reminded the representatives of the Ministry of Defense that the family is at no fault and that everything should be maintained in accordance with the law.
The court adjourned the hearing until October 6, instructing the ministry to inform officials whose letters appear in the camera.
