Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will lead a delegation from Pakistan to the top class of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), starting today to draw the attention of the international community to the “serious crisis” in Gaza and call for “decisive action” to the Palestinians.
World leaders speak for several days in New York at the UNGA annual conference in September each year.
In his speech to the General Assembly this year, Prime Minister Shebaz will urge the international community to resolve the long-term career and denial of self-determination in Indian-occupied Kashmir and Palestine. It added that the Prime Minister will also highlight Pakistan’s perceptions on the regional security situation, as well as other issues of international concern, including climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Shehbaz’s “attendance to this largest annual gathering of global leaders will demonstrate Pakistan’s strong commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations, and highlight Pakistan’s long-term contribution to common objects of peace and development.

On the sidelines of the UNGA meeting, he will meet with Austrian Prime Minister Christian Stocker, Kuwait’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid, World Bank President Ajay Banga and International Monetary Fund Board Director Kristalina Georgieva.
According to a government statement, the Prime Minister will comment on issues of common interests during a bilateral meeting with world leaders and senior UN officials.
“He will also stress Pakistan’s determination to work with all UN members to uphold the UN Charter, previous conflicts, promote peace and promote the global prosperity of Pakistan as a member of the Security Council.”
