In addition to Pakistan’s steady progress and close cooperation with the agency, the country’s nuclear program has also been recognized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In an article on X, after meeting with Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of IAEA, highlighted Pakistan’s achievements in expanding its citizens’ nuclear energy.
He observed that Pakistan’s nuclear power program is moving forward “at a good speed”, especially with the continued construction of the Chashma nuclear power plant Unit-5 (C-5).
Grossi recalled that he witnessed the site’s first concrete pour in February, which he described as “an important milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen energy security through clean and sustainable nuclear power”.
The IAEA DG and the PAEC Presidents reviewed areas of cooperation under various agency programs.
Among them is Atoms4food, which uses nuclear technology to improve crop yields, food safety and pest control, and hope rays, aiming to expand access to cancer care for nuclear medicine and radiation therapy.
Grossi appreciated Pakistan’s active participation with the institution, especially in capacity building, training and the application of nuclear knowledge to socio-economic development.
He pointed out that Pakistan continues to be an important partner in the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology.
The PAEC President reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the peaceful application of nuclear technology, which is consistent with national development priorities and the IAEA framework. He stressed that Pakistan’s nuclear power plants operate at the highest safety standards and have made a significant contribution to the energy portfolio by providing reliable low-carbon electricity.
“PAEC’s activities are closely aligned with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) vision to promote nuclear technology for peace, health and prosperity,” Anwar added.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss Pakistan’s contribution to regional initiatives under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), especially in the Asia-Pacific region, where Pakistan’s expertise in nuclear applications is shared with other beliefs.
The delegation of Pakistan reaffirmed its determination to continue to work with the International Atomic Energy Agency and member states to promote peaceful nuclear cooperation, sustainable development and improve the quality of life of people in the region.

CPF 2026-2031 demonstrates the enduring partnership between Pakistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Paec’s press release said its implementation will strengthen Pakistan’s socio-economic development and strengthen its role as a responsible member state committed to the IAEA’s global mission.
The country’s plan outlines national priorities where nuclear science and technology will directly support socio-economic development. It is based on decades of cooperation and is aligned with Pakistan’s development agenda and international commitments, including the Sustainable Development Goals.
Covering three technical cooperation cycles, it identifies five key areas: food and agriculture, human health and nutrition, climate change and water management, nuclear power, and radiation and nuclear safety.
