Larkana: Ghulam Qadir Chaudhry, a consultant hired by Sindh irrigation department, visited two miles of the appearance of Larkana-Sehwan (LS) on Sunday to check its condition, focusing specifically on the weak T-Spur of Happur in the North Dadu division.
According to Jamil Ahmed Sangi, the chief engineer, from 15/0 to 17/1 mile to the first stimulus of Mohenjo Daro near Purani Gudd village, he checked the LS Bund and evaluated its front and rear liquefaction status.
Introduction Mr. Choudhury is a retired chief engineer with expertise in hydrology and irrigation engineering – about the status of the LS Bund.
Mr Sangi said he also built the 16/1 mile T-Spur of Hakra Dyke in 2017.
Experts visit damaged dams; recommended ways to protect them from erosion
He said the consultant had earlier suggested improving the strength of the T-Spur’s calf by lifting it to 20 feet. The stone pitch and construction of stone aprons on both sides are also emphasized. Additionally, it was suggested to expand the Earth’s Bund, which spans two miles, to 30 feet.
Mr Chaudhry suggested building a 35-degree arch upstream of T-Spur. Currently, its width is 150 feet and should now be increased to 400 feet by adding 250 feet of its original size.
Hakra Dyke has declared vulnerable to erosion, where there are plenty of stone bowls stored next to the LS Bund.
Mr Sanji believes that Indian water will also reach this point in the next flood season. Therefore, he said, this problem must be addressed early. He said this is a common phenomenon and could cause problems.
Currently, floods are retreating in Sukkur Barrage, but pressure on all levees is increasing, including Moria and Abad Bunds in the North Dadu division. The total length of these levees in the department is 86 miles, he said.
He said the increasing pressure during peak flow a few days ago caused the Moria walking bun downstream of the arm of T-Spur and attacked its entire length. However, he added: “We are alert to the situation and the act of monitoring the rivers”.
