Chitral: Civil society representatives expressed serious concern about the rapid melting of Broghal, Trich, Awer and Golin Valleys in Chitral, which would have dye consequences for the region and the country as a whole.
They spoke here at the emergency meeting here on Saturday, with Sartaj Ahmed Khan calling out the convener of the “Save Chitral, Save Bakistan” movement. Civil society representatives, environmental experts and political leaders have put forward their expert opinions and suggestions to address the issue.
Mr Ahmed told the party that during his recent visit to Broghil Valley last week, he was shocked to see the glaciers retreat at a startling high speed over the past decade and undergo significant changes.
He said glaciers are a valuable source of Chiantar and other glaciers in Broghil, the Kabul River, which irrigates the Peshawar Valley and other plains. He stressed that damage to the Chitral glacier could be a loss for the entire Pakistan.

Participants said Chitral had 543 glaciers, many of which were declared endangered, and any extinction of these “water towers” would not only provide catastrophic to Chitral, but also catastrophic to the entire country.
They suggest launching a full-scale campaign to save strange glaciers to save plains.
