Britain, Australia and Canada recognized a Palestinian state amid an earthquake shift in Western foreign policy on Sunday, sparking outrage from Swift Israel.

Portugal should also recognize the Palestinian state later on Sunday as Israel suffered enormous international pressure on the Gaza conflict, which occurred about two years ago on October 7, 2023.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a message on X: “Today, in order to revitalize the hope of peace among Palestinians and Israelis, as well as a two-state solution, the UK formally recognizes the situation in Palestine.”

Britain and Canada became the first G7 to take this step, with France and others expected to follow at the UN General Assembly that opened in New York on Monday.

“Canada recognizes the Palestinian state and provides our partnership to build commitment to a peaceful future for the Palestinian state and the State of Israel,” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Australia announced that it had “officially recognized the independent and sovereign state of Palestine”, according to an article by Prime Minister Anthony Albanian on X.

“In doing so, Australia recognizes the legitimate and long-standing desire of the Palestinian people for their state,” the Albanian said in a statement, whose country joined other major Western countries in pressure on the Israeli-Gaza conflict.

“Today’s recognition reflects Australia’s long-term commitment to a two-state solution, which has been the only way to sustain peace and security for the Israeli and the Palestinian people.”

It was a watershed for the Palestinians and their decades of national ambitions, and the most powerful Western countries have long believed that this should be part of a peace deal with Israel.

But the move has left these countries in conflict with the United States and Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stared at Andrily and vowed to join in talks at the United Nations.

Netanyahu said on Sunday that he called on the Palestinian state to “will endanger our existence and use it as a ridiculous reward for terrorism.”

More and more long-term allies have moved their positions as Israel intensifies Gaza’s offensive and vows to eliminate Hamas.

Since the beginning of the conflict, the Gaza Strip has suffered solid damage, spiral deaths and lack of food, which has triggered a humanitarian crisis, which has sparked international protests.
