Paris: Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday for a spectacular downfall of the Conservative Party, which led France from 2007 to 2012.
This sentence will soon make Sarkozy the first post-war sentence in France to be imprisoned, worse than many would expect, and shocked allies and enemies.
As he left the court, Sarkozy moved clearly, expressing anger at what he called a “scandal.”
He told reporters he added: “If I were absolutely towed to prison, I would drag the prison, but my head hero is tall.” “I won’t apologize for what I didn’t do.”
“What happened today…is extremely serious in terms of the rule of law and in terms of trust in the justice system,” he said of his wife, model and singer-songwriter Carla Bruni.

The prison sentence was immediately executed, and the judge said Sarkozy had only a short time to put his affairs into practice before prosecutors called on him to go to jail. That has to happen within a month. French media said Sarkozy will be called on October 13 to tell him when he will be jailed.
