The Italian Foreign Minister said that no potential sanctions against Israel should harm civilians, while reiterating his call for an end to the “bloody” call in Gaza. AFP Report.
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told the Senate: “I repeat this with the greatest clarity: We firmly oppose Israel’s occupation of Gaza and make any suggestions to forcefully transfer Palestinians from stripping.”
He added: “What is going on in Gaza is an unacceptable tragedy. This blood must end immediately.”
Tajani said Italy would strongly support any new measures against Hamas and further sanctions on violent settlers and ministers in Israel, taking an “unacceptable position” on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
“We will evaluate further recommendations on trade sanctions while understanding that there is no negative impact on Israeli civilians, which is known to be multiracial with a large Arab and Druze population,” he said.
Tayani also warned that legitimate criticism of the decision of the Israeli government should not be used as an excuse to fuel anti-Semitism.
“No one should be afraid anymore, because they are Jews. Never again!” he said.
