His public relations staff said film legend Robert Redford, who had occupied sixty years of career in front and behind the screen, died at his Utah home. He is 89 years old.
A statement from promotional firm Rogers & Cowan PMK CEO Cindi Berger said Redford died in sleep without giving a specific reason.
“Robert Redford died on September 16, 2025 at his home in Sundance, Utah – the place he loved was surrounded by those he loved,” Berger said.

After 20 years as an actor, he moved behind the camera, became an Oscar director and co-financed the flagship Sundance Festival for aspiring independent filmmakers.
Redford is a determined environmentalist who also strives to preserve the natural landscape and resources of the state of Utah where he lives.
He was born on August 18, 1936 in Charles Robert Redford Jr., in Santa Monica, California, and is the son of an accountant.
Redford and his first wife, Lola Van Wagenen, have four children, one of whom died of an infant. He married German artist and long-time girlfriend Szaggars in 2009.
Redford is a household name in English cinemas in the United States and around the world Common peopleand the 2002 honorary award.
“Robert Redford’s work as an actor, director and producer always represents the man himself: intellectuals, artists, cowboys,” said American actor Barbra Streisand when awarding him the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement in 2002.
