Taliban government officials in Afghanistan said on Sunday that the deal at Bagram air base was “impossible” after U.S. President Donald Trump explain He wants a former US base.
Trump threatened the country with unspecified punishment on Saturday, just days after he proposed the idea that the U.S. took control of its base during a state visit to Britain.
“If Afghanistan did not return the air base to the person who built it, the United States of America, then bad things would happen!!!” the 79-year-old leader wrote on his truth social platform.
Trump has said before that the United States wants to acquire the Panama Canal to Greenlandhas been focusing on Bagram for many years.
When asked whether he would send U.S. troops to retake his boss on Saturday, Trump refused to answer directly: “We won’t talk about that.”
“We are talking to Afghanistan right now, we want it to come back, and we want it to come back immediately. If they don’t do that – if they don’t do that, you’ll find out what I’m going to do.”
Fasihuddin Fitrat, chief or staff member of the Defense Department, said on Sunday that “some people” want to regain their base through a “political agreement.”

“It’s impossible to even reach an inch of Afghan soil. We don’t need it.”
Bagram, Afghanistan’s largest air force base, is key to U.S.-led war efforts, and its Taliban administration overthrew the Washington government after the September 11, 2001 attack on the United States.
U.S. and NATO forces pulled Bagram out in July 2021 as part of the Trump brokerage deal with the Taliban.
A few weeks later, the loss of critical air force caused the Afghan military to collapse. Taliban sweeping.
Current and former U.S. officials privately warn that the reoccupied Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan may eventually require more than 10,000 soldiers and deploy advanced air defense capabilities, just like a reinvasion of the country.
Experts say the massive air base will initially be difficult to secure and require a lot of manpower to operate and protect.
Even if the Taliban accepts negotiations for the re-occupation of the following U.S. efforts will need to defend many threats, including the terrorist ISIS and al-Qaeda militants in Afghanistan.
