Port Sudan: Sudan’s Paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) attacked 75 people at a mosque when it attacked El-Fasher, Darfur city on Friday.

El-Fasher is the last major city in the vast western region still under the control of the conventional army, and the RSF has been sieging it since May last year.

Drone strikes attacked the city’s worshippers.

A post at the rescue agency said: “The body was taken out of the ruins of the mosque.

Since April 2023, the RSF has been in a devastating war with the regular army.

The UN Human Rights Office said there are concerns that such racially motivated killings may increasingly be accompanied by combat and “has a devastating impact on civilians.”

Al Daraja residents comb through the wreckage and found and buried the dead, but said they had used up the shroud of their bodies. “We have to use plastic bags,” one resident said, using satellite internet connections to bypass communication power outages.

“After all the siege and death, there is no more shrouds in the city,” he said.

The siege of the RSF has led to mass hunger in the city, where families have been living on animal feed for months.

Key foundations fall into RSF

Satellite images released by Yale’s Humanitarian Research Laboratory showed Thursday that RSF troops advanced in multiple ways, including at the Abu Shuk camp and the former alliance’s pecckeeper base.

The Joint Force has since used the base, a coalition of armed groups that has fought the army against RSF combatants since the end of 2023.

The alliance is the key to the city’s defense. Zaghawa, the city’s largest ethnic group, sees RSF as an existential threat.
