The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Meer) has made stricter attendance rules for the 2025-26 academic year, which placed the parents a larger repump to ensure regularly. The new policy, which is part of the student administrative matter policy, sets clear limits for absences and applies to all students across the emirate.
Key ATEENDANCE thresholds
- Kindergarten: If more than 10% of the school year (18 days) are missing, it is marked.
- Grades 1–12: More than 5% of the school year (9 days) lack a concentration.
These limits apply to both excuse and impeccable absences.
What reports as attendance and absence?

Absence rate is the percentage of school days that are missed against the official school calendar. For students joining the middle of the year, the rate is measured from the first entry day.
As a dissertation
AdEC recognizes the following as valid reasons for the missing school:
- Disease
- Emergency Medical Appointments
- Death of an immediate family member (first or second degree)
- Official duties, competitions or meetings
- Government holidays or closures
- Adk approved exam or study leave
Medical absence rules
- Parents can submit their own written sick notes for up to 3 consistent days, at 12 days a year.
- From the fourth day, a medical certificate from the Department of Health (DOH) is needed.
- For more than 12 days, an official DOH medical report must be provided.
Older responsibilities
Parents should:
- Notify the school of any absence.
- Provide official documents (medical notes, letters, etc.).
- Make sure their child completes any missed lessons, homework or exams.
- If documentation is not submitted, the absence will be marked as unmatched.
Undeviewing absences
Some reasons are not accepted, such as:
- Family holidays during school term
- Staying home without informing school
- Non-Curgent Medical Appointments
- Skip the school because of minor weather conditions
Lateness is also important
Schools also follow repeated late, which can lead to actions done if it becomes a regular habit.
