The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced that the upcoming MDCAT exam for admission to medical and dental colleges will be held strictly on domicile. Students will be required to appear in the province linked to their place of residence and will not be performed elsewhere for the test, according to media reports.
To implement this decision, universities have designed in the four provinces and Islamabad as exam centers. These include IBA Sukkur, the Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences in Quetta, and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (Szabmu) in Islamabad.
A special test center in Islamabad will accommodate candidates from Sindh and Balochistan. Meanwhile, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkwa applicants will appear at their respective provincial universities. At Szabmu, students from Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and all provinces can also take the exam, although seats will be allocated according to their provincial quotas.
PMDC has made it clear that a valid domicile of the province set up will be compulsory for admission to medical and dental institutes. In addition, the dedicated seats remain reserved for candidates from Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The council also reviewed the MDCAT schedule in the corresponding across the country. The examination was initially planned for October 5, 2025, and will now take place on Sunday, October 26, 2025 following the command of Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal.
