Quetta: The family of a 12-year-old kidnapped girl has issued a 24-hour deadline to authorities to restore her recovery and threaten to block the Quetta-Karachi highway if she does not return it.
Orphan girl Ayesha Bibi was allegedly kidnapped by an armed group on September 23, with her relatives claiming the kidnapping was carried out by the demands of influential tribal figures.
Ayesha Bibi’s parents are dead and have been living with relatives. The family described itself as poor and vulnerable to cope with the influence of local power holders.
“Our girl is innocent. She was taken away at night and we have no means to ensure her release,” family member Maulvi Rehmatullah Zehri said in a press conference.
Zehri accused local officials of hindering their efforts for justice, claiming that the family identified the alleged culprit and its location in law enforcement.
“But, the Assistant Commissioner of Kuzdal did not help us, threaten us, and demanded that we remain silent,” said Mr Zehri. “This is absolutely injustice – the AG family has been destroyed.”
He further claimed that powerful local elements were covering up the perpetrators.
“We have neither resources nor influence,” they said in a joint statement. “Since the kidnapping, our women and children have been living in constant fear and sleepless nights. We informed the authorities, but they did not act, but tried to suppress us.”
