Quetta: Badruddin Kakar, chairman of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA), expressed serious concern limit Regarding the campaign of wheat and flour imposed by the Punjab government and said that if the decision is not withdrawn, the Bal Luchistan province will face a food crisis in the coming days.
Speaking at a press conference with Haji Abdul Waheed Bareech and Syed Nasir Agha on Tuesday, the PFMA chairperson said the price of a 20 kilogram bag rose by Rs 800 in a ban on wheat and flour flow. He said wheat is one of the basic foods in Pakistan and Punjab is the country’s largest producer. He added that this year, the country’s total wheat production reached about 28 million metric tons, or 77% from Punjab.
He added that in earlier meetings with the government, guaranteed wheat prices would not be fixed and there were no restrictions on movement within the province.
However, he added that the Punjab government imposed a ban in August 2025 and established checkpoints at provincial borders following recent storms and floods.
“These checkpoints have become hubs for bribery and blackmail,” Kakar said.
Mr Kakar pointed out that Bal Luzhi and Khyber Pakhtunkwa are low-yield provinces and rely heavily on wheat supply in Punjab.
