Minor worker was crushed to death in Mandi Bahauddin’s brick kiln mixer

Gujrat: A 12-year-old boy was crushed to death in a mud mixer while working on a brick kiln in Pahrianwali village in Mandi Bahauddin district on Wednesday.

Rehan Ahmed (12) has been working for Ahmed Raza Warraich Brick Kiln in Pahrianwali, the report said. The boy was removing the mud from the mixer when the boy’s operator Arfan started the machine. As a result, the boy was crushed to death by the blade of the blender.

Pahrianwali police have investigated the case of the machine operator under Article 322 of the Pakistan Criminal Code (PPC) and have begun an investigation according to the report of the victim’s father Maqsood Ahmed.

The boy of the deceased was then buried in the cemetery of Phirey Village near Pahrianwali, where he provided funeral prayers.

Responding to the incident, a spokesman for the Punjab branch of the Pakistan Brick Kiln Workers Association accused the police of not intentionally nominating the owner of brickwork in the FIR, who (owner) not only employed underage jobs.

He asked for registration of the owner for murder.

In addition, the spokesman said the Ministry of Labor is also responsible for such incidents, requiring brick kilns not to take any safety measures.

He said authorities must enforce regulations that protect brick workers across the province.

Mandi Bahauddin police spokesman Zohaib Virk said Pahrianwali Police filed another case against sister Wake Ahmed, the administrator and owner of the brick kiln where the boy died.

The second case was filed under the report of Saqib Hayat, various parts of the Punjab Occupational Safety and Health Act 2019.

The owner is charged for not ensuring the safety of workers in the workplace.
