Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Dr Farooq Sattar on Wednesday targeted Sindh government and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, involving delays in metropolitan development projects.
“They can’t imagine a development project and can’t deliver it,” he said at a press conference in Karachi.
During the press, MQM leaders talked about the Green Line Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) project. Recently, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) supported by the Sindh government led by PPP stop The federally funded Rs 6 billion green line bus expansion project is that PIDCL failed to obtain No Objection Certification (NOC) from the municipality before restarting its work.
“The excuse is an excuse for not getting NOC, which is why the work was stopped. I think it is an inter-departmental issue. KMC is a government department and the Sindh government has been elected by the people,” he said.
He questioned that even if NOC was needed, the project would need to be postponed. He further said that all necessary approvals were obtained in 2017.
He claimed that the reason for stopping working on the project was because the credit was attributed to MQM, which Karachi mayor was “indigested”. He said Wahab made hundreds of promises to the residents of the metropolis, but not even one promise was fulfilled.
He quipped: “If the provincial government led by the PPP or the mayor of Karachi do the right thing, then they should have a few thousand dollars worth.”
He further said that the provincial government failed to complete several projects, including the K-IV project launched in the 2000s, to alleviate water in Karachi.
“From 2008 to 2022, they sat on this project, similar to the chicken ruins on eggs for 21 days. However, after the 21-day egg hatch (…) they sat on the first phase of the K-IV project for 14 years (…) but they didn’t finish it.”
He further said: “This is a sterile government. You should not expect them to complete any projects. You should not expect them to relieve them.”
He said the underground passage built in Karimabad was ignored while working on the underground passage in Gulistan-iuhar. He added that the promise has been made to provide overpasses for Korangi Causeway in 2022, which was not followed either.
He also highlighted the damage caused to Shahrah-i-Bhutto during the recent rainfall.
“Pray that thanks to some of them for being damaged during construction. What would happen if it had happened after it was built? How many lives would happen? How many cars would damage how many cars would have been damaged?”
Due to the condition of the city, he called on the Sindh government to seek forgiveness from the people of Karachi and to make up for their mistakes.
