Lahore: The government failed to make up for violations on the Noraja Bhutta embankment along the Sutlej River as the government failed to pass 12 days, but residents in different areas of the Multan, Lordland and Bahawalpur remained homeless.
The communities of Noraja Bhuta, Bahadurpur, Basti Lang, Kanu and Dipal; Tarut Basharat, Daily Rajanpur and Belaywala in Lodhran; Dunyapur, Jhangra and Muradpur Soiwala in Bahawalpur were forced to live on the banks of the embankment, as their houses remained.
Basti Lang resident Muhammad Bakhsh said his coalition commission had risen again, adding that it would continue to rise if the Noraja Bhutta embankment was not stuffed. “We also heard that Sutlej approached another intermediate flood in Jalalpur Pirwala in a day or two, which would further increase the water level around our house,” he said.
He commented: “We also heard that the government is inserting the Noraja Bhutta embankment, but the water has not yet retreated from these areas….” Ijaz Khan of the Tarut Bashart Union Council said the water level is increasing due to violations. He said the government was placing heavy stones around the M-5 street bridge to save it, but the water did not retreat.
Nawaz Bajwa, chief engineer at the irrigation department of Mildan, told dawn In the Noraja Bhutta embankment along the Satley River, three loopholes were inserted into the city of Jalalpur Pirwala. He said they also preserved the main gas pipeline to Punjab.
Punjab Irrigation Minister Kazim Pirzada revealed that 70% and 90% of the population, Alipur and Jalalpur Pirwala, respectively, were affected by recent floods. He said Jalalpur needed to evacuate, Alipur needed a large-scale relief operation, and the team worked on the lockdown to provide essential supplies to Sultanpur, Shahbazpur, Seetpur and other affected towns.
Normal flow
Irfan Ali Kathia, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Agency (PDMA), said the currents of the main rivers in Punjab have returned to normal levels. He said that in the Sutley River, moderate flooding situations continue.
According to PDMA data, the Sutlej River flows in 95,000 Cuseecs in Ganda Singh Wala and 81,000 Cuseecs in Suleimanki Point. Chenab River shows 55,000 Cuseecs in Marala, and 29,000 Cuseecs in Khanki Headworks and Qadirabad have been reduced to 24,000 Cuseecs.
The traffic of the head trimmu is recorded at 35,000 Cuseecs. Panjnad Headworks reported 118,000 Cuseecs. Meanwhile, the readings of the Ravi River dropped in 6,000 Cuseecs in Jassar, 9,000 Cuseecs in Shahdara and 30,000 Cuseecs in Sidhnai Head. The traffic of Balloki Headworks is measured at 28,000 Cuseecs.
