Britain, Australia and Canada recognized a Palestinian state amid an earthquake shift in Western foreign policy on Sunday, sparking outrage from Swift Israel.
Portugal should also recognize the Palestinian state later on Sunday as Israel suffered enormous international pressure on the Gaza conflict, which occurred about two years ago on October 7, 2023.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a message on X: “Today, in order to revitalize the hope of peace among Palestinians and Israelis, as well as a two-state solution, the UK formally recognizes the situation in Palestine.”
Britain and Canada became the first G7 to take this step, with France and others expected to follow at the UN General Assembly that opened in New York on Monday.
“Canada recognizes the Palestinian state and provides our partnership to build commitment to a peaceful future for the Palestinian state and the State of Israel,” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney wrote on X.
Meanwhile, Australia announced that it had “officially recognized the independent and sovereign state of Palestine”, according to an article by Prime Minister Anthony Albanian on X.
“In doing so, Australia recognizes the legitimate and long-standing desire of the Palestinian people for their state,” the Albanian said in a statement, whose country joined other major Western countries in pressure on the Israeli-Gaza conflict.
“Today’s recognition reflects Australia’s long-term commitment to a two-state solution, which has been the only way to sustain peace and security for the Israeli and the Palestinian people.”
It was a watershed for the Palestinians and their decades of national ambitions, and the most powerful Western countries have long believed that this should be part of a peace deal with Israel.
But the move has left these countries in conflict with the United States and Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stared at Andrily and vowed to join in talks at the United Nations.

“Special burden”

Starmer said in July that his Labor government intends to recognize the Palestinian state unless Israel takes “substantial” steps, including reaching Sevre in Gaza, obtaining more aid to the territory and confirming that it will not be the West Bank.
Starmer also repeatedly called on Hamas to release the rest of the hostages they captured in the 2023 attack and is expected to impose new sanctions on the Palestinian group.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghahin Shahin told AFP Last week: “Knowledge is not symbolic. It always sends a very clear message to the Israelites because their fantasies continue their careers forever,” she said.
“Worrying evolution”
