Karachi: Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal vaccinated his daughter on Saturday to eliminate false propaganda about the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign.
The minister said at a press conference at the office of the Pakistan Drug Regulatory Agency (DARAP) that misleading propaganda has spread the vaccine and he wants to take action instead of saying it is safe.
“In my 30-year political career, I have never brought my family into the public’s eyes,” he told reporters. “But to end these unfounded rumors, I took this step.”
Mr. Kamal said that when he was taking care of his daughter, he thought the daughter of the country was equally precious. He added: “Our purpose is to seek Allah’s recognition by protecting our people from disease.”
The minister stressed that Pakistan’s health care system cannot provide treatment to every citizen and many patients remain in hospitals for a long time. He called for a greater emphasis on preventing vaccination.
The Health Minister also said more vaccines will be introduced into the future and urged the public to adopt them to protect the country from life-threatening diseases.
“Cancer is a deadly disease that affects not only one person but the entire family and prevention is still the best way forward,” he concluded.
