Karachi: Sessions court sentenced a man to 24 years in strict prison for throwing acid at his wife.
Other District and Conference Judge (South) Muhammad Yousuf Malik ruled Muhammad Sajid was sentenced to 14 years in prison for throwing acid at his wife, Saima Bibi, who suffered 22% of burners trying to kill her.
“It has been confirmed that the defendant committed the crime and threw the acid to an innocent lady without any reason,” the court said.
According to state prosecutor Ayesha Saeed, the couple has been married for 12 years, but the woman has lived with her parents for the past two and a half years as her husband, a former drug addict, once beat her.
In testimony in court, the acid attack survivor said that on the day of the incident, she was at her parents’ home, and at around 8 p.m., her husband arrived and suddenly threw the acid on her.
Her brother and mother occasionally transferred her to the hospital, where she recorded her statement and nominated her husband for the offense.
During the trial, the defense defended the defendants falsely involved in the case. He claimed the woman’s brother had thrown the acid, and he also argued that the trial failed to raise independent witnesses in the case.
But the court rejected the defense request and noted that the defendant failed to provide a large amount of evidence to support his claim.
It added that the incident occurred inside the house. So the families who were present and saw the incident stood up and recorded their statements to support the victims.
Registered with the National Defense Police Department under Article 324 (Terrible Murder) and 336-B (Punished for Punishment for Corrosive Substance).
