Lahore/Dera Ghazi Khan: The price control and commodity management department in Punjab claims to have recovered 334,000 metric wheat from hockey.
The meeting chaired by Dr. Kiran Khurshid, secretary of the price control department, was told on Friday that wheat stocks at flour mills increased by 165,000 metric tons this month. In addition, grinding of 360,000 metric tons of wheat ensures a stable supply of flour.
The meeting was informed that the department was monitoring stored wheat stocks as Article 144 was imposed on the hoarders. In addition, the Punjab Food Bureau, the regional government, and the Punjab Law Enforcement and Regulatory Agency (PERA) operated at 2.095 locations across the province.
Dr Khurshid said the price of wheat at Rs 3,800 per 40 kg is now falling to Rs 3,000 in the open market. The secretary directed the food DG to continue to crack down on the Ilegal Hoardders in Punjab.
Strategic Management Department has also established to report demand and supply, availability and prices in local and international markets
The Punjab government also established a Strategic Management Department (SMW) in the price control department. The Secretary allocated the Additional Director-General for Price Control (ADG) Azooba Azeem to oversee the SMW. First, eight researchers were appointed on the wing. The wing will provide information on commodity demand and supply, its availability and prices in local and international markets.
Dr. Khurshid said the purpose of the wing is to integrate dashboards and portals of all subsidiaries of the division. It will also provide updates regarding on-site operations and other initiatives underway by all relevant departments.
She said SMW will also prepare recommendations for policy planning and departmental new priorities. She added that it will monitor department performance, track compliance and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Meanwhile, an action was conducted against the hoarders of Dera Ghazi Khan and Taunsa.
Up to 75,000 holocausts of wheat were confiscated from two cotton factories, in DG Khan.
Assistant Commissioner (Headquarters) Nazar Hussain Korai said that, in accordance with the instructions of the Punjab government, dealers and business owners were directed to announce their shares and register them with relevant authorities.
Under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Nadeem Hashmi, the police squad also recovered a large amount of holocaust wheat and sealed 21 warehouses and shops.
