RAWPINDI: Despite attempts by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCIA) to question PTI founder Imran Khan at the Adiala prison, officials are unable to extract any information because he has been refusing to measure them.
Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asking for permission from the former Prime Minister and his wife Bushra Bibi to exercise their husband-wife rights while being confined to the same prison.
Sources said the NCCIA team, led by additional director Ayaz Khan, visited Adiala on Thursday for the second time this week to ask the PTI founder about his “X” handle.
However, sources said Mr Khan told the team that he brought the attorney to his attorney, whether he wanted to ask him about anything and refused to participate in the investigation.
The team arrived at Adyara Prison at about 3.30 pm and left for safe safety two hours later. The NCCIA launched an investigation after posting a tweet criticizing government officials and agencies in Mr Khan’s account. Ellier visited Adiala Pail on Tuesday to investigate the establishment of PTI about the operation of its social media account.
Request for husband and wife’s rights
In addition, a petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court to demand that former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra bibi exercise their husband-wife rights while being restricted to Adhiara Prison in Rawalpindi.
The petition filed under Article 199 of the Constitution was submitted by Shahid Yaqoob, a resident of Islamabad and a supporter of Mr. Khan.
Respondents mentioned in the petition include Chief Commissioner Islamabad, the Punjab Government, the Inspector General of the Punjab Prison and the Principal Adiyala of the Central Prison.
The petitioner believes that denying husband-wife rights violates constitutional protection, international conventions and previous court rulings. The request refers to the standard minimum rules for the treatment of prisoners in the United Nations (Nelson Mandela rules), the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the European Convention on Human Rights, all of which protect the right to family life.
It also cites the Supreme Court’s direction, a 2010 notice issued by the Sindh Home Ministry, which allows convicted inmate couples to visit once.
It further relies on the landmark judgment of the Federal Islamic Court, which recognizes the rights of the prisoner’s husband and wife as fundamental rights.
It requires the IHC order to implement the SC and federal SARIAT court directives.
A police spokesman said security will be strengthened around ATC Rawalpindi during a hearing of the GHQ attack on Friday, and the PTI founder will participate in the pre-select via video links.
