Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to establishing a “long-standing” relationship with the United States, noting that “we have no relationship with other countries.”
DG ISPR expressed these views in an interview with German media. The interview was aired on Pakistan TV Channel on Friday.
In the interview, a military spokesperson was asked about Army Director Asim Munir’s visit to the United States and whether they had helped to “strengthen” the relationship between Islamabad and Washington.
In his response, Lieutenant Choudhry praised the role of the United States and President Trump in mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May after a four-day escalation. “For a period of time, we were able to strengthen and amplify our convergence (with the United States) and manage the differences skillfully,” he said.
“There are a lot of things that can be done in some areas, and there are a lot of participation in some areas,” he said. He added: “Pakistan believes that its relationship with the United States is very important.”
“We don’t think there is anything to do in these relationships, or there are other countries or other countries.” At this point, the interviewer introduced him to mention China, and DG ISPR continued: “We have very constructive and strategic relationships with China and other countries.”
He said there are many “ranges” of cooperation between the United States and Pakistan when it comes to counter-terrorism.
In this note, he expressed satisfaction with the recent declaration of the Majeed Brigade as a terrorist by the United States.
