Islamabad: call Helped by PPP flood PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah calls for a comprehensive reform of the program through survivors of the Benazir income support program, which provides direct cash allowances to millions.
He made these words on a TV show hosted by Gharidah Farooqi. Rana Sana, who is also the Prime Minister’s assistant for political affairs, said BISP cannot continue in its current form – either needs packaging or a complete remodel.
PML-N leaders suggest that the “Benazir Rozgar Program” or “Hunarmand Spine” is a more effective way to provide beneficiaries with skills and employment opportunities rather than monthly allowances. He said the matter would be discussed in parliament, adding that even some PPP leaders agreed to the proposal.
He claimed that the federal government has been spending a lot of money on BISPs, which he believes is inappropriate due to the current fiscal austerity. Rana Sanaullah said BISP should not be used to help flood victims because its “real spirit” requires these programs to help people achieve their own good, not just provide financial assistance.
A BISP official told dawn The Prime Minister’s aide made the statement in his personal capacity and such a suggestion has not been discussed yet.
On the other hand, BISP reviewed plans for a secure, transparent and accessible payment system for beneficiaries at the conference.
The initiative aims to make Pakistan’s millions of BISP beneficiaries safer, transparent and easy to access financial aid.
PPP Senator Sherry Rehman repeatedly urged the government to immediately expand BISP to nearly 3 million flooded families. PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and other prominent party leaders expressed similar needs.
