Patel said the note was destroyed, but investigators have collected forensic evidence that it already exists and confirmed its contents through interviews.
Patel did not say who received the text message or if anyone had read written notes before the attack.
Investigators have not publicly determined the motivation. Law enforcement said they believe Robinson acted alone when shooting Kirk but was investigating whether others played a role in murder and killing.
respectively Washington Post Robinson sent a message to a friend through the online platform Disharmony, apparently acknowledging the crime shortly before being arrested Thursday night, reported Monday.
The report said: “I was at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for this.
Kirk, an influential ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, co-founded Turning Point USA, the leading conservative student group, which killed a shot last Wednesday at an event at the University of Utah in about 40 miles (65 kilometers) south or Salt Lake City.
Video hearing
Robinson, 22, is expected to formally indict on Tuesday, about the same time, his prison cell initially appeared in court.
Patel told Fox News The DNA that matched the sisters was found wrapped in a rifle around the reef, considered a murder weapon, on a screwdriver found on the roof, which was the shooter’s sniper bass.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said Sunday that Robinson did not work with authorities, but investigators have been interviewing his friends and family to determine the motive for the shooting.
The killings have shaken a country that has been surging by a surge in political violence, driven by polarization between the right and left. Both sides generally condemn Kirk’s killings as an act of irrefutable political violence, although partisan differences have emerged within the framework of this message.
Despite the lack of evidence, some Republicans, including Trump, blame Kirk’s murder on liberal groups, while Democrats point out that left-wing figures have also been targeted in recent years. Left and right also disagree with Kirk’s legacy and how it is remembered.
Traditional split
Kirk supporters see him as an influential charismatic figure who praised Trump’s support among young voters in 2024, with the Republican president honoring Kirk by ordering flags flying on the half-court rack of public buildings.
Civil rights advocates and liberals criticized Kirk as a split figure who accepted Trump’s unproven claims about stolen elections in 2020 and had derogatory rhetoric for marginalizing blacks, women, LGBT communities, Muslims, Muslims and immigrants.
Vice President JD Vance’s “incredibly destructive movement of left-wing extremism” helped lead to Kirk’s killings during his appearance on Kirk’s podcast on Monday.
While Robinson grew up in a Mormon family by religious parents in a deeply conservative area of the state, his ideology is very different from his family, Cox said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program on Sunday. ”
National records show Robinson registered to vote without a party selection and did not vote in the 2024 presidential election. But a relative told police that Robinson expressed growing political nature in a recent conversation and expressed dislike of Kirk.
House Speaker Mike Johnson and three other top members of House Republican leaders held a letter for Kirk Monday, attended by dozens of lawmakers, friends and supporters at the U.S. Capitol Statistics Pavilion.
Back in Utah, at the scene of Kirk’s assassination, many mourners flocked to the scene, flocking in recent days to leave flowers and handwritten notes, and embossed Mexican messages in chalk on campus sidewalks, many of which are biblical verses.
Dally Bronson, 22, a sheriff’s dispatcher from neighboring Wasage County, was on duty when Kirk was shot and killed, said she was frustrated by the appearance of justice as a devout Christian.
Bronson describes himself as a Kirk admirer, who he says has been praying for him and his accused killer.
“Until recently, Robinson was a good kid, and it was a good kid,” she said. “Killing is not a political aspect or the other – it’s about good and evil. The Sagittarius encountered a darkness online; he won in a black hole on the internet, which people of our time fell into.”
