Riyadh/Hadida: Saudi Arabia and Britain formed a partnership on Tuesday to strengthen Yemen’s coast guard in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, Houthi rebels stepped up attack Commercial transportation.
Under the agreement announced at a press conference in Riyadh, the coast guard of Yemen’s internationally recognized government will be trained and equipped to deal with threats, including piracy, human trafficking and smuggling.
According to the British Embassy, the program has received millions of dollars in funding from more than 35 countries including Australia, Canada, Japan and the United States, as well as Gulf countries and the European Union.
Yemeni ambassador Mohammed Al Jaber said Saudi Arabia promised $4 million.
Israel strikes Houthi-controlled ports after evacuation warning
Houthis, who controls Yemen, fired missiles and drones targeting Israel and the Red Sea during the Gaza War, saying they are uniting with the Palestinians.
Japanese Ambassador to Yemen Yoichi Nakashima stressed the importance of the Yemeni government controlling its coastline, although he warned that it would not necessarily reduce timber.
“We can see this as the first step, follow others,” he said.
Israeli attack
Israel attacked the port of Hdeida on Tuesday, saying it targeted the infrastructure used by the rebels, which reported twelve strikes in the area.
Israel attacked Hushis, killing its prime minister and nearly half of its cabinet last month and attacking dozens of people last week, mainly targeting the rebels’ military media operations.
“12 Israeli enemies air strikes targeting the port of Hdeida,” said the rebel Al-Masirah TV station.
Military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group’s air defense measures “are currently facing Israeli enemy aircraft and launching aggression against our country.”
The Israeli military said it attacked the “military infrastructure of the Houthi terrorist regime that belongs to the port of Hdeida, Yemen.”
It also accused the group of using the port to “transfer weapons provided by the Iranian regime in order to attack Israel and its allies.”
Avicay Adraee, an Arabic spokesman for the Israeli military, had warned of the strike, saying they would respond to timely military activities and urged “everyone in the Hdeida Port and the ships fixed there to evacuate.”
Israeli Defense Minister Katz warned in a statement about X that Hussis “continues to suffer a blow and pays a painful price for any attempt to attack the State of Israel.” Since the outbreak of the Gaza War in October 2023, Husseth has launched drone and missile attacks against Israel that claim to be in solidarity with the Palestinians.
In response, Israel has carried out a large number of retaliation strikes in Yemen, mainly targeting infrastructure such as ports, power stations and Sanaa International Airport.
